First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. First Printing. [Date from the copyright page.] Preface, Footnotes, Comments, Replies, Index; x, 272 pages. The bright red cloth is in fine shape, with corners square and lettering on the spine as bright as when first issued. The unclipped dustjacket has taken the wear, with several small chips and a tear on the spine, now closed. The interior is fresh, crisp, and completely clean. A lovely copy. [Please see the my five images.] This book presents "to a wide audience some features of contemporary thinking on the perennial problem of the brain-mind relation [including] discussions of the Identity Hypothesis, the representative theory of perception, of some basic neurological and cybernetic facts, of the theory of non-Cartesian dualism, of the concept of consciousness and the problem of survival, amongst others." Comments and replies centering around each essay form a kind of dialogue among the contributors---Beloff, Brain, Ducasse, Flew, Kuhlenbeck, MacKay, Price, Quinton, and Smythies. As with every book from my father's collection, tipped-in at the front is the small, attractive, acid-free bookplate pictured on my homepage. All books are wrapped with special care and are shipped promptly with tracking; international sales sent via global priority, also with tracking.

Softcover. Condition: Good condition. First published anonymously in 1798, this book predicted a grim future, as population increased. While it was not the first book on population, it was revised for over 28 years and has been acknowledged as the most influential work of its era. A key portion of the book was dedicated to what is now known as Malthus' Iron Law of Population. This theory suggested that growing population rates would contribute to a rising supply of labour that would inevitably lower wages. In essence, Malthus feared that continued population growth would lend itself to poverty and famine.
