Arthur Efron was on the faculty at the University of Buffalo from 1963 until retiring in 2000. This book arose from his doctoral dissertation earned at the University of Washington, Seattle. As explained upon his university webpage, the term "dulcineated" was his "own invention to connote the degradation and sentimental idealization of woman in the Quixote." The Williams were both Mississippi State University English professors. Peyton W. Williams, Jr. was editor of MISSISSIPPI QUARTERLY: THE JOURNAL OF SOUTHERN CULTURE from 1970 to his death in 1987 and his wife Jerry T. Williams served as Associate Editor until her passing in 2010.
