Condition: New. A songwriter, itinerant laborer, and union organizer, Joe Hill became famous around the world after a Utah court convicted him of murder. Even before the international campaign to have his conviction reversed, however, Joe Hill was well known in hobo jungles, on picket lines and at workers? rallies as the author of popular labor songs and as an Industrial Workers of the World (IWW) agitator. Thanks in large part to his songs and to his stirring, well-publicized call to his fellow workers on the eve of his execution - ?Don?t waste time mourning, organize!? - Hill became, and he has remained, the best-known IWW martyr and labor folk hero. Thank you for supporting Last Word Books and independent bookstores.

Pamphlet. Condition: New. 20 page photocopied, stapled zine/pamphlet publication reprinted by Last Word Press. Joe Hill, born Joel Emmanuel H?gglund in G?vle (Sweden), and also known as Joseph Hillstr?m (October 7, 1879[1] ? November 19, 1915) was a Swedish-American labor activist, songwriter, and member of the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW, also known as the "Wobblies").[2] A native Swedish speaker, he learned English during the early 1900s, while working various jobs from New York to San Francisco.[3] Hill, as an immigrant worker frequently facing unemployment and underemployment, became a popular song writer and cartoonist for the radical union. His most famous songs include "The Preacher and the Slave", "The Tramp", "There is Power in a Union", "The Rebel Girl", and "Casey Jones?the Union Scab", which generally express the harsh but combative life of itinerant workers, and the perceived necessity of organizing to improve conditions for working people.

The story of the Swedish-born , American labor organizer, (1879 - 1915) songwriter, cartoonist, satirical poet and member of the Industrial Workers of the World (Wobblies), who was accused of murder, convicted on circumstantial evidence and executed by the state of Utah. Hill was convicted for the 1914 murder of grocers based on the evidence of a same-night gun-shot wound to Hill, which was treated by a local doctor. A 2011 biography by William M.
