Full dark green leather binding; elaborate bright gilt and white stamped decoration to both boards and spine with latter additionally embellished with two raised bands; streak of white paint from bookshelf adhered near spine heel; slender shelf scuffing at boards' bottom edges. All edges gilt. Swen-in green silk ribbon page marker. Marbled pattered endpapers. Author's black ink signature on front flyleaf. Interior pages are bright and clean. Binding retains some crispness. This Franklin Library edition, issued in their The Signed First Edition Society series, preceded the first trade editions published by Viking Penguin Inc. and Macmillan of Canada.
