Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book explores the history of fishing management practices in the Madison River system within Yellowstone National Park, and draws on research conducted from 1953 to 1957 to evaluate the impact of stocking hatchery fish. The author examines the effectiveness of stocking fingerling and adult rainbow and brown trout, and the results of these experiments show that fingerling stocking contributes little to the fishery, while adult stocking is only valuable in the season of stocking. The author advocates for a management strategy that focuses on preserving the healthy population of wild brown trout, and possibly encouraging the wild rainbow trout population. The author also suggests that the current regulation of fly-fishing only could be reconsidered to allow for a greater harvest of large brown trout. Overall, this book provides valuable insights into the management of trout populations in a national park setting, and the findings have implications for the management of similar fisheries elsewhere. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.
