Illustrated throughout with exquisite full-page wood engravings and elaborate floral border designs by noted 19th-century artists including Allan Barnard, H. C. Groome, E. H. Garrett, Frank Dicksee, A. W. Cooper, J. Nash, E. M. Wimperis, and others. Printed on heavy cream paper with decorative typography typical of Cassell's deluxe editions. Poetic subjects include "Easter Lilies," "Spring Time," "The Haymaking Girl," "John and the Squire," and "The Parting Hour," celebrating nature, rural life, and sentiment. Early ink ownership inscription on the front flyleaf reads "Henrietta M. Harmon" in fine 19th-century cursive. Gilt page edges remain bright.
