From the author of the Bush War classic 'Fireforce: One Man's War In The Rhodesian Light Infantry'. 219 x 149 mm; laminated pictorial wrappers; pp. (viii) + ii + 209 + (i) + publisher's adverts.; photographs; map. Trace of foxing to edges; wrappers and pages a little damp-rippled. Good condition. 'The book harshly examines the author's transition to a life of "normality" in a totalitarian black-nationalist state, effectively a period of 15 years during which he has to come to terms with the nightmares of his past, post-traumatic stress, alcoholism and drug abuse. Although a strong anti-war statement, it is not a story of war. The theme is not new - of young men forced to fight their fathers' wars. This book, through the eyes of the author, particularly refers to young men in Africa, who through a freak of circumstance found themselves in a stupid, terrible war created and perpetuated by their elders and the politicians. The black and white veterans of Africa's wars are cast by the wayside. They face a daily struggle for survival and sanity. This story, one amongst thousands untold, is of a 15-year odyssey of denial, confusion and self-loathing.'.

First Edition
Magazine. Condition: Fine. First Edition. The Jubilee Edition of the very rare Rhodesian Light Infantry magazine, devoted to all aspects of the history of this famed African counter-insurgency unit, founded in 1961 as a British Army regiment and disbanded in 1980 as political power was given by the British to communist terrorist Robert Mugabe as Zimbabwe was granted its own independence. Filled with many nostalgic photos, maps, and reminiscences, containing much accurate history of engagements, contacts, and special operations - both inside Rhodesia and 'externally' into neighboring countries - along with much humor and 'then and now' information on individual former members. Regiment was known as 'Smithie's boys' and 'soldiers of Smith' as it was fiercely loyal to Rhodesian Prime Minister Ian Smith. Published in South Africa by the RLI Regimental Association (RLIRA) and edited by a former NCO therein, magazine format, 72pp. An excellent copy of a very rare and unusual collectible. Size: Large Format. Book.
