Westerhout (Bryan's Dictionary, V) in cui l'autore porge in ginocchio il frutto della sua scienza al suo papa intronato che lo benedice, il tutto in cornice floreale alle armi di Papa Innocenzo XI (Benedetto Odescalchi) e il motto di Lev. 23,10 "porterete al sacerdote un covone, come primizia del vostro raccolto"; frontespizio in rosso e nero con piccolo fregio, testatine e graziosi capolettera ornati e abitati, tutto in xilografia. Solida legatura coeva in piena pergamena semirigida con nervi passanti, dorso liscio con titoli manoscritti e in oro su tassello ornato. Qualche rara e lieve fioritura, altrimenti esemplare genuino, marginoso e ben conservato. Ex libris coevo manoscritto alla sguardia anteriore. Questo trattato di scienza liturgica dell'illustre prelato romano, profondo conoscitore dell'archeologia cristiana, va inserito nella plurisecolare querelle, risalente perlomeno allo scisma tra cattolici e ortodossi, sull'eucarestia di pane azzimo o fermentato. Il discrimine sta in quel lievito figura agente della corruzione e degenerazione, le cui radici teologiche affondano in Paolo 1 Cor 5,7 "Purificatevi dal vecchio lievito, onde siate una pasta nuova, senza lievito, come siete di fatto. Celebriamo dunque la festa, non con vecchio lievito ne con lievito di malizia e di malvagità, ma con gli azzimi della purità e della verità" il quale a sua volta rispecchia l'uso ebraico degli azzimi nella vigilia di Pesach (giorno in cui si consumò l'ultima cena) quando si rammemora la fuga precipitosa dall'Egitto che non lasciò nemmeno il tempo di far lievitare il pane; ma lievito anche come agente di cambiamento incarnato dalla figura di Gesù il Cristo "Io sono il pane vivo, disceso dal cielo" (Gv 6,41).
