First edition, first impression, of this comprehensive account of the history and development of the Falklands. The work also includes detailed information on the geology, climate and vegetation, in addition to a chapter on the birds of the region. Mary Brown Rowan Cawkell (1907-2001) was a historian, residing in the Falklands with her husband from 1950 to 1956. The Falkland Islands immediately became the standard modern history in English, and when the Argentine invasion and subsequent war broke out in 1982, she was commissioned to write her second work, The Falkland Story 1592-1982. Octavo. With 8 half-tone plates illustrated recto and verso, full-page maps or sections in the text. Original strong vivid green, spine lettered in blue. With pictorial dust jacket. A touch of rubbing to spine ends, covers bowed, plates lightly toned, a very good copy in slightly soiled jacket, occasional minor wear (mostly to edges), otherwise very good.
