EL MANUSCRIT LLABRÉS L'any 1887 l'erudit Gabriel Llabrés i Quintana (1858-1928) va descobrir a Mallorca un manuscrit del segle xvi que contenia quaranta-nou peces teatrals. Sembla que es conservava en una església parroquial de Villa, el nom de la qual ens és avui dia desconegut. El prevere Miquel Pasqual, beneficiat de la Seu de Palma, és qui va copiar les peces al manuscrit, tot i que sembla clar que hom no pot atribuir-n'hi l'autoria. Quarantaquatre d'aquestes obres són escrites en llengua catalana i cinc en castellà. Aquestes darreres foren analitzades per l'estudiós W. H. Shoemaker, el qual concloïa que els textos castellans eren traduccions que més aviat representaven una adaptació lliure, i que no milloraven el model (1936, 247). Josep Romeu ?a qui de justícia hem de considerar el primer investigador que endega una anàlisi aprofundida, global i absolutament vigent del manuscrit?ja al 1957 manifesta clarament que el Manuscrit Llabrés és el monument més important dins la història del teatre català (1957 I, 77).
