A lively anecdotal memoir of one man's involvement with steam engines commencing with his apprenticeship with the L.N.E.R locomotive works and then his time as a REME officer working on the railways of India in the last years before partition followed by his time as a Locomotive Shed Master with Southern Railway. Almost all the photographs are from the author's own collection and published here for the first time. Ref V3.
