Add to basketCondition: Very Good. Los Angeles, CA: Athletic Model Guild (AMG), [ca. 1954]. Single sheet Bulletin 46 from September 1, 1954; three single-sheet order forms; typed letter from a customer with order details; clipped signature and index card; bulletin supplement detailing AMG's new "nickel" and "dime" plans, along with highlights of upcoming albums, usually featuring certain models, though a wrestling album is also mentioned. Rubbing to edges and minor nicks; mail folds to all; overall Very Good. A detail-rich cache of material from Bob Mizer's pioneering photo studio of male physical culture. Consistent with the times, there is no explicit reference to homosexuality or homoeroticism, though in the bulletin supplement a section entitled "Regarding Nudes" explains: The [Post Office's] latest outrageous infringement on citizen's rights has been to open and confiscate and allegedly destroy even physique photos in g-strings as well as to intimidate us by asking S&H and Iron Man to withdraw our advertising. The eventual aim of these prudes is to eventually outlaw even the physique magazines themselves. The confiscation can only occur on parcel post mail so we will use only first class mailing for all photos. We do not have and do not expect to have nudes for sale." Though the Bob Mizer Foundation in Los Angeles contains a very large archive of material that is still being cataloged, we were only able to locate a few later issues of the bulletin at Texas A&M.
