Seller: My Father's Books, Bennington, VT, U.S.A.
Book First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. 1st Edition. Printed in Great Britain. First edition, first printing. Preface; separate Notes & Appendix to each Part; Postscript; Indices; xiii, 364 pages. The attractive original blue cloth is in excellent shape; the gilt lettering on the spine remains as bright as when first issued. The interior is creamy-bright, crisp, and clean---except for pale penciling by my philosopher-father on five pages. The unclipped dustjacket, having taken all the wear, is a bit rubbed with a few chips and a sunned spine. [Please see multiple images of the actual book.]. The author explains, in the Preface, that his book is not primarily about organisms, but about 'statements' which speak about organisms. Therefore, it is addressed to biologists interested in such statements "---their laws and the part they play in biology (which are discussed in the first two lectures)---[who] will find that some problems connected therewith have been solved, and some muddles removed, in this book. To learn how this has been done may give the interested reader some intellectual pleasure." As with every book from my father's collection, tipped in at the front is the small, attractive, acid-free bookplate pictured on my homepage. All books are wrapped with special care and are shipped promptly---domestic sales sent with 'delivery confirmation' tracking; international sales sent via global priority, also with tracking. Please note that, due to COVID-19, overseas shipping may incur unusual delays.
