Hardcover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. Astley-Maberly, C.T. (illustrator). Seventh Edition. From the author's Preface: SINCE my retirement on completion of forty-four years' service as a ranger in the Kruger National Park, a number of my friends have suggested that I ought to record in book form some of the experiences of a life which in many ways has been an unusual one, and to me at least full of interest. After considerable hesitation, I eventually yielded to persuasion, and the following pages are the result. They deal mainly with a world very different from that of today, for the changes which have taken place in Low-Veld life and conditions exceed those which have occurred anywhere else in South Africa. What, only forty years ago, was a wild, trackless, and almost unknown country, has now, thanks to the attraction of the Kruger National Park, become a popular resort for visitors not only from every part of South Africa, but from overseas as well. I felt, however, that my rather promiscuous notes required expert editing, and I am doubly grateful to Mr. C. T. Astley-Maberly not only for having so ably perfornied this task, but for having illustrated the book. Few other professional artists are so well acquainted with wild life, or have spent so much time in delineating it in its natural surroundings; in fact, in the early days of the Park he was accustomed to wander about alone on a bicycle sketching such animals as he met; a feat which would not be permitted nowadays! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------- Perfect reading copy. 313 pages plus index. Beautiful drawing throughout. Introducton by J. Stephenson-Hamilton, late warden of the Kruger National Park ------------------ Orders over $100.00 are shipped using tracked courier delivery services. Size: Approx 6½ " Wide and 9½ " Tall.
