Soft cover. Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: No Dust Jacket. 195 pp. Tightly bound. Corners not bumped. Text is free of markings. No ownership markings. No dust jacket. This copy is smyth sewn. Smyth sewing is a method of bookbinding where groups of folded pages (referred to as signatures) are stitched together using binder thread. Each folded signature is sewn together individually with multiple stitches and then joined with other signatures to create the complete book block. This is the traditional and best method of bookbinding.

Hard Cover. Condition: Near Fine --. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good +. Probable First. The bloody and dramatic fight for abolition of slavery speaks of one moment in history, but more than that, it illustrates the character of the would-be martyr's mind and the instinctive resistance of the many who attempted a drastic change in the status quo. This book presents the abolitionists of the pre-Civil War era as fanatics capitalizing on a concept of martyrdom akin to that of the early Christianity and objectivity of a group in American history that has been difficult to consider without bias. 195 pages including index. Illustrations. Dust jacket has a couple of very small chips; price clipped. Lovely copy.
