Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. First Edition. 801 pages (complete). In Afrikaans throughout. The Wiehahn report came out of the labour unrest of the late 1970s, throughout South Africa. Its recommendations were among the final splutters of the apartheid regime to try to impose a more sophisticated State control on the labour force and its appetite for unionisation. A healthy copy. The boards are smart, steady. They have light storage wear. The papertrims have storage marks. The contents have some general evidence of use throughout. The pages are, however, clean, clear, ordered, passive. fk. Our orders are shipped using tracked courier delivery services.

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. First Edition. 761 pages (complete). An assured copy of one of the most important Government commissioned Reports delivered during the Apartheid years. The impact of the report, especially considering it was at the height of black repression, led to a total restructuring of labour relations. The Wiehahn commission recommended that all black trade unions should enjoy the same legal rights as white trade unions. This proposal was accepted by the government! The commission's recommendation that the statutory colour bar (job reservation for whites guaranteed by law) be dropped was also accepted in industry! As a result organised labour in South Africa changed drastically. Labour legislation was amended to give black trade unions access to those statutory industrial relations structures protecting blacks against victimization because of trade union membership (although Trade Unionists were heavily harassed and repressed in the mid to late 80s). The parliamentary red boards are smart and handsome. They are steady and sound. The papertrims have some foxing and light storage tanning. The contents are pleasingly business-like and tidy. The frontis pages are a little foxed. The rest of the contents are clean, clear, confident. fk. Our orders are shipped using tracked courier delivery services.
