Hard Cover. Condition: Near Fine. Preissig, Vojtech (illustrator). Limited. . Illustrated with color linoleum cuts by Vojt?ch Preissig. Limited edition of 390 numbered copies. Signed by Preissig on the limitation page. Publisher's white vellum and cream paper boards, lettered in purple and decorated in orange, printed on Zanders handmade paper at the State Printing Office in Prague; in the publisher's light tan paper slipcase, with beige title labels, lettered in black. Near fine, with some minor spotting to the spine, a few faint spots to the otherwise fresh boards, bright pages, sturdy spine; slipcase with wear and toning, some soiling to the boards, a few minor chips and a discreet glue repair to the edges. Overall, a clean and sturdy copy. Salut au Monde! is a poem that was first published in the second edition of Leaves of Grass (1856) as one of the twenty new poems not included in the first edition of 1855. A joyous ode to the world, this poem is indicative of Whitman's early optimism, as well as his affinities for natural beauty and international comradery. Notably, this edition of Salut au Monde includes linoleum cuts by Czech illustrator, typographer, and printer Vojt?ch Preissig. A formative figure in early 20th century Czech graphic design, Preissig is celebrated not only for his contributions to art but also for his resistance to the Nazis, which led to his death at Dachau in 1944. Signed by Illustrator.
