Guyon (1649-1717)spent time in convent schools, later adopting mystical and quietist ideas. Madame Guyon was arrested as a heretic and imprisoned at the Bastille for four years (1698-1702). She retired to Blois, becoming a place of pilgrimage for her admirers. Some of the chapters are devoted to Fenelon and Guyon's influence.
