Condition: Very good. - Over 40 words typed in blue on his 10-3/8 inch high by 7-1/8 wide creamy white stationery with his name and address embossed in blue at the top. Javits thanks the American choreographer and dancer Agnes de Mille for her note and looks forward "with great anticipation to 'Conversations About the Dance'. Signed "Jack" by the senator in black ink. Folded for mailing, there is a tiny black ink spot near the top right corner. Very good. Jacob Koppel "Jack" Javits (1904-1986), served as a U.S. Congressman and subsequently New York Attorney General before he was elected to the U.S. Senate in 1956. A Liberal Republican, he served in the Senate from 1957 to 1981. New York's Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, which opened in 1986, was named after him. The American dancer & choreographer Agnes de Mille (1905-1993) was married to Walter Prude.

Rush served as Attorney General under Madison and Monroe, filling in as Acting Secretary of State for six months in 1817, until Monroe's appointee John Quincy Adams arrived home from Great Britain; among Rush's achievements were the demilitarization of the Canadian border on the Great Lakes in 1817, his successful role as minister to Great Britain, 1817-1825, and his handling of the nation's finances as Secretary of the Treasury, 1825-1829. Folio. One-page, approximately 175 words; docketed verso of integral leaf. Old fold lines, but very good.
