William Tilghman was a lawman and politician in Kansas and Oklahoma during the late 19th century. This book, published by his widow a few years after his death, uses Tilghman's records to provide a narrative of frontier outlaws and the officers that pursued them. "Here is depicted the hideousness of outlaw life, and along with it, woven into the narrative with a close adherence to facts, details of the lives of those coldly brave men, the field marshals who brought the bandits to justice," reads the introduction.
