Fine condition in a Near Fine dust jacket. Bright, shiny, clean, square and tight. NOT a library discard. NO owner's name or bookplate. NO remainder mark. Pages are fresh and crisp -- probably never read. 1,977 annotated entries. Includes a checklist of works by Conrad. From the preface: "Without omitting any accessible important works, we have tried to compile a bibliography as broadly representative of writings on Joseph Conrad as possible. The 1,977 entries, dated between 1895 and 1966, include abstracts of writings in about fourteen languages and publications of all kinds: reviews, general appreciations, bibliographies, biographies, critical books, documented articles, chapters in books, scattered references in books and articles, Ph.D. dissertations, letters to the editors of major newspapers and journals, introductions to editions of Conrad's works, and explications in anthologies and 'case books.' We include at least a sampling of trivia and nonsense as well as more nearly definitive, highly perceptive, early important writings on Conrad. We have tried to include abstracts of some writings published in obscure periodicals and newspapers and little-known books. We aimed for the ideal of completeness " Bound in the original light brown cloth. Complete with dust jacket. First Edition. Hardcover. It is axiomatic that contemporary scholarship requires not only a thorough knowledge of an author and his work but also an equally profound awareness of what has been written about him. But very little has been done to assist scholars to gain the mastery of the latter corpus until now. The primary purpose of this bibliography is to offer scholars interested in the future assessment of Joseph Conrad a representative body of criticism of his works from 1895 through 1967. This volume contains 1,977 entries. More than twenty contributors working in fourteen languages for more than five years have gleaned from the major sources of the world all of the significant commentary on Conrad. Many of the entries annotated here have not been listed before in either general or individual bibliographies. Every item either has been read and abstracted by a specialist or is clearly designated as not seen. Except for solving certain bibliographic problems and correcting some inaccuracies, the editors have refrained from rendering personal judgments on the material presented. All of the entries have been carefully edited by Bruce E. Teets and Helmut E. Gerber, the editors of this volume. Helmut E. Gerber is the general editor of the series. Size: Sm 4to.
