"Nine journeys in the South African countryside are described and illustrated in this book of travel. Four of them are taken in the western, southern and eastern Cape Province, while the rest pass through the Orange Free State, the Transvaal, Natal and a small section of Mozambique Territory. An attempt is made throughout, to acquaint the reader with surface form and underlying rock structure and composition. The history of river sculpture is given close attention and the evolution of coastlines is often referred to in attempting to unravel the surface history of the Union of South Africa. In addition to 67 explanatory text figures, 122 full-plate scenic photographs serve to illustrate the text.".

Book First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Poor. First Edition. 204 pages plus folded map at rear (complete). In Afrikaans throughout. A drowsing copy of this book of a geographer's journey through South Africa, from Cape Point to the Limpopo to Durban. The dustjacket is much worn, torn, marked, creased. It is resolutely secure. The boards are marked from handling and shelving and storage. They have wear about the edges and seams. They are benign. The contents are mild-mannered. The frontispage has a lengthy gift inscription (not from the author). The early pages have storage insect damage to the top trims. There are occasional areas of tanning, foxing, marks. But these are unobtrusive. The contents are otherwise placid, clean, clear, convivial, competent, cordially certain. fk. Our orders are shipped using tracked courier delivery services.
