The first edition published originally by Doubleday, and a year later (1960) by Collins. A historical novel of the life of a nineteenth-century woman emigrating from Scotland to New Zealand on her own. She finds herself in the midst of Maori unrest, with elements of tribal warfare, Maori uprisings, and anti-European feelings. A very good copy with light shelf wear, fore edge rough cut. The jacket has moderate edge wear, areas of surface rubbed, and a couple of short tears, and a small hole on the spine at about the half-way mark. The original $3.95 price has been clipped. The jacket is now protected with a Brodart cover.
