First edition. xxxv, 331 pp. Tragically, in 1883, while only 23 years old co-author Corry and a friend were drowned when their boat overturned on Lough Gill, Co. Sligo while carrying out a botanical survey of the lake shore. Corry had received a grant from the Royal Irish academy to continue his investigation of the flora of the Benbulben range. It was stated by A.G. More at the time - "His early death will be deplored by all who feel an interest in the advance of Botany in Ireland". A full account of the tragedy is given by S.A. Stewart in the preface to this book. On publication Corry was credited as co-author. Stewart completed the work single-handedly and it was published in 1888 with financial help from the wealthy Corry family. This regional flora has remained the standard text for the north-east of Ireland ever since. Dark green eps. Inscription on title page - "A. Deane" (small & neat) - copy belonging to Belfast naturalist C. Douglas Deane. Inscription on half-title page. Bookplate of John Horner on fep. Front hinge cracked.
