Bookplate to inside of front board with prev owners name dated 1936 Language: English. Book Condition: Fair: Forward roll to spine. Wear to corners and edges. Heavy creasing to length of spine with tears to lower front and rear edges. Lightly soiled boards with toned margins and spine. Tightly bound with strong hinges. Bookplate to inside of front board with prev owners name to upper edge. Mark to inside of rear board and endpaper. Spotting to inside cover and first page. Lighter spotting to many page margins. Toned pages. Silver tin foil to upper inside corners of pages 140-141, probably used as page marker at some point in the distant past. Heavily toned text block edges with spotting. DJ Condition: No DJ. Pages 256. Size: 16mo 18.5cm by 12cm. PROVENANCE: BOOKPLATE: Thomas Eric St Johnston & Joanna St Johnston. Sir (Thomas) Eric St Johnston CBE, KStJ, QPM (1911 - 1986) was Chief Inspector of Constabulary from 1967 until 1970. Educated at Bromsgrove School and Corpus Christi College, Cambridge. He joined the civilian staff of Scotland Yard; and was admitted a barrister at the Middle Temple in 1934. In 1940 he became Chief Constable of Oxfordshire, in 1944 of the Durham Police and in 1950 of the Lancashire Force. A former Colonel in the Royal Artillery TA, during World War Two he was employed at the War Office. He was Director of Administration for Spencer Stuart & Associates from 1971 until 1975. In 1978 he published his autobiography 'One Policemans Story'.

The WRAPPER is complete and is in Very Good++ condition. A little edge-wear with a few small closed tears to the upper spine. A little age related markings but the colour remains bright. The wrapper is protected in a removable Brodart archival cover. The publisher's Review Slip is loosely inserted.
