The US publication date, August 1945, coincides with the use of atomic weapons in Japan, first in Hiroshima and then in Nagasaki, athough either features in the work directly. However, the work comments "The entire purpose of the work described [here] . was to explore the possibiity of crreating atomic bombs . ".
