Condition: Fair. 1922. 215 pages. No dust jacket. This is an ex-Library book. Blue cloth with gilt lettering. Expected library inserts, stamps and inscriptions. Frontis is detached Rough cut pages are lightly tanned and thumbed at the edges, with creased corners and foxing. A few pages are uncut, thus unread. Binding has remained firm. Boards are a little rub worn with slight shelf wear to corners, spine and edges. Corners are a little bumped and spine ends are a mildly crushed, with small splits and chips. Tanning to spine and edges. Boards are bowed. Book has a forward lean. Water marks to boards and spine.

The spine is faded with its titling completely faded. 215 & [1] deckle-edged pages. Illustrated in black & white with 6 plates, including a portrait frontispiece, & with full-page illustrations. The gutters are darkened & there is a bookseller's sticker on the front pastedown with a previous owner's ink name & date on the front endpaper. 1 plate is detached. There is light staining to the margins of the frontispiece & the half-title & title pages and the inner edges of the pages are slightly darkened throughout. Good. The title page of Harrington's English verse version, published in 1608, reads: "The Englishmans Doctor. Or, The Schoole of Salerne. Or, Physicall observations for the perfect Preserving of the body of Man in continuall health". The Latin text of Regimen Sanitatis Salernitanum is also included in the book.

The dust jacket has several edge nicks and tears and some light wrinkling. "Salerno is, however, specially noted for the intellectual trend of life which it conducted at all times, and particularly during the Middle Ages, when the city kept the traditions of Greco-Latin culturew alive in Southern Italy, so that for many centuries it was called the urbe graeca, or Greek city. The celebrated Medical School also enters into this many-sided scheme of activity, even if it rose to greater renown in a particular field.".
