Foreword begins: "When you've paid for this, go straight upstairs and tuck it away in the attic with that Mark Nine blower you brought home just in case. // Because in 1984 little Alfie is going to toddle up to your withered knee and he'll say, 'Grandpapa, tell me about when you were in that old war thing.' That'll be your chanve to bring down these very pictures, yellow with age, and spin him a couple of horror yarns, and show him the scar on your shoulder where you pushed that Mark Four over the escarpment."
