IV/I, 98.48; ADB XXXI, 481. - Sehr selten Ausgabe dieses klassischen Erbauungsbuches für Landschullehrer. - Schlez, (1759 - 1839), studierte Theologie, Philosophie und Literaturgeschichte in Jena und wurde Amtsnachfolger seiner Vaters als Pfarrer in Ippesheim. Seit der Studienzeit der Aufklärung verpflichtet, profilierte er sich als Publizist im Dienst der Volksaufklärung, gab seit 1797 "Fliegende Volksblätter" heraus, verfaßte Schulbücher in der Nachfolge Friedrich von Rochows (Der Denkfreund, 1811, (22)1860) und schrieb Romane (Geschichte des Dörfleins Traubenheim, 2 Bde., 1791/92, (3)1817). 1799 wurde Schlez Erster Pfarrer, Kirchen- und Schulinspektor und Konsistorialrat in der Grafschaft Schlitz, verwirklichte dort eine Reihe von Reformen in Kirche und Schule und gestaltete das moderne Volksschulwesen entscheidend mit. Seine pädagogischen Anweisungen, u.a. das Handbuch für Volksschullehrer (5 Bde., 1815-21), wurden zu Klassikern. (DBE) Sprache: deutsch.
