Condition: Good. 1895. Second Edition. 198 pages. No dust jacket. Red cloth boards with gilt lettering to spine and front. Black and white illustrations and illustrative plates throughout. Binding remains firm. Crinkling to gutters. Previous owner's inscription to front endpaper. Pages remain bright and clear with minimal tanning. Boards have mild edge wear with slight rubbing to surfaces. There is bumping to corners and crushing to spine ends. Tanning to spine and edges. Gilt lettering is darkened. Book has a slight forward lean.
Hardcover. Condition: Fair. 198p. In maroon cloth with gilt titling. Badly bumped to edges, some rubbing, some loss of color along hinges. Faint dampstain visible near title. Previous owner's name and address, dated '95, on front free endpaper and again in upper margin of the first page of the Introduction. The frontispiece has been torn out, leaving a ragged edge. All other plates are present and securely bound in. Few fox marks to page edges; otherwise very bright and clean. Endpapers have split open down both gutters, but been reglued into place and the binding feels quite firm. Size: 12mo - over 6 3/4 in - 7 3/4 in tall. Year: 1895.

No Binding. Condition: Good. He was a British soldier who fought during the Peninsular War and the War of the Seventh Coalition. Signature on piece London June 19th 1826 to the Hon Lady Haselrigge? Islington, London. "Free front" cover. Notes* He commanded his regiment at the battles of Talavera and Buçaco, and in 1810 received a colonelcy and the appointment of aide-de-camp to the king. In 1811. The brigadier was particularly mentioned in Wellington's despatches, and received the thanks of parliament as well as the Army Gold Cross with one clasp for his services at Talavera, Salamanca, Vitoria, Orthez, and Toulouse. He also received the Military Order of Maria Theresa and was made an honorary Knight Commander of the Royal Portuguese Military Order of the Tower and Sword. At Waterloo in 1815 he lost his hat during the first cavalry charge and in the subsequent search for it a cannonball tore off the flap of his coat and killed his horse. He was awarded a GCB in 1834. The 'Somerset Monument' stands high on the Cotswold Edge at Hawkesbury, Gloucestershire, near the family's ancestral home of Badminton, Gloucestershire. It was erected in 1846 and has an inscription in memory of General Lord Robert Somerset. Signed by Author(s).

The document itself, comprising 28 lines in 'Wardour Street' imitation of a mediaeval manuscript, begins 'M ye Ladye of Lockynge wyl welcome hyr guests on ye middle sward & yey wyl yere bee refressed. Ye Royal Profgress f ye Sumer Quene shall depart from ye Mannor House at iii of ye clocke & shal jovrney down ye Parke, mye Lord & Ladye & yeir court a-following ye same.' TWO: Printed invitation, completed in manuscript for 'Sir George & Lady Russell and Party'. 1p., 8vo. With facsimile signatures of 'R Loyd Lindsay' and 'H S Loyd Lindsay', beside an armorial seal in red wax. The Invitation follows a similar design to Item One, and includes a circular illustration of two knights jousting. The series was published as guidebooks for the aspiring, car-driving metropolitan sightseer. The guide includes maps and chapters on antiquities, industries, nature notes, war and sport. It ends with a gazetteer compiled by Edith Olivier. Lord Berners designed the front and back covers, creating a collage of various photographs, old and new, of Wiltshire places and people. The majority of the photographs were taken by Maurice Beck and Christopher Sykes contributed a line drawing.
