Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. No Jacket. Seventh Edition. New York: P.J. Kenedy, 1904. Originally published by Kenedy in 1874, this is a Near Fine copy of the Seventh Edition in a beautiful Edwardian decorative binding. Despite its popularity, quite scarce today, particularly in such nice condition. Bright green cloth, blindstamped and filled with black and gilt. The front cover features 4 medalions of Irish heroes (Brian Boru, Daniel O'Connell, Thomas Moore, and Robert Emmet). Quercus notes their association with a Catholic saint, indicating how close religion could be identified with nationalism. Published as part of the "Irish Fireside Library." Clean text; 350 pages. The paper is bright and supple - still a great copy to browse. Very minor bumping/rubbing at the margins. Penciled signature by a previous owner on the FFEP Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Seventh Edition. Decorative Cloth. Near Fine/No Jacket.
