"I have occasionally been accused of treating my birthday as a national holiday. I confess to being guilty as charged! And it's not just my own birthday that gets enthusiastically celebrated, but the birthdays of my family and close friends, too. I simply can't help it .I'm a birthday fanatic. And why not?! What better reason for celebration than the anniversary of the day we came to be . the commemoration of our triumphant debut on this planet! If that's not worth celebrating, I don't know what is. I have drawn hundreds of birthday cards over the years. People often ask me if I get tired of depicting jubilant scenes of festive parties starring beaming Birthday Boys and Girls? My answer . Heck No! Birthdays are so rich in spirit - with so many layers of meaning - that new ideas just keep coming to me. Many of my birthday cards are based on fond memories of the wonderful parties we were treated to as children. Balloons and paper streamers were hung from the ceiling and a festive birthday table cloth and bright paper plates and cups helped transform the normally boring dining room into a kid's birthday paradise. Guests would arrive at two o'clock on a Saturday afternoon, neatly dressed and displaying their best behaviour until their parents left. By the time they were picked up, the natty little party outfits were grubby and wrinkled, spilled punch stained the carpet, and the wild-eyed guests were beginning to crash from a two-hour sugar and adrenaline rush. The hosting mother was, of course, exhausted. Lucky for us, our parents seemed to have short memories and would do it all again the next year. As I got older, birthday parties became a bit more sedate, but were always celebrated in high style. I truly believe that there should be nothing ordinary about one's birthday - even for adults. On every other day of the year, we are defined by what we do and the roles we play . accountant, mother, doctor, brother . but on our birthdays, we are more . we are royalty: The Birthday Queen and The Birthday King! It's a short reign, so when it's your turn on the throne, make it count! I hope you enjoy this tour through my very favorite birthday designs .and whether your birthday is today or months away, let me be the first to wish you the very best birthday every . Happy to you! - Mary - excerpt from the Introduction.

Vintage publicity photograph of the Mystery Writers of America's (MWA) endorsement of Hitchcock's 1948 film, showing (right to left) MWA President Lawrence Blockman, author Veronica Parker Johns, Alfred Hitchcock, author Audrey Roos, author Edward Radin, and author Clayton Rawson, with cropping annotations and the annotations of names in the margins of the recto. Based on Patrick Hamilton's 1929 play, which was in turn based on a murder committed by Nathan Leopold and Richard Loeb in 1924. Two young men living together in a New York apartment decide to kill their former classmate to prove their intellectual and aesthetic superiority. As they grow increasingly daring and proud of their "perfect murder," their close friends and associates begin to suspect something is awry. Hitchcock's first Technicolor feature, one of the director's most experimental films, now rightfully considered an undisputed classic. Set in New York. 10 x 8 inches. Very Good, with light creasing overall, several pinholes near the extremities, and cello tape repairs to the verso and the right margin of the recto. Grant US. Rosenbaum 1000. Selby US. Spicer US.
