Un volume petit in-8°, (14 x 22, 8cm), broché, reliure souple éditeur, 1er plat orné d'un dessin en rouge représentant une femme arabe à l'extérieur de son harem, les pieds posés peut-être sur un jardin parfumé (c'est en tout cas la légende du frontispice sur lequel s'ouvre ce livre : une gravure en noir encadrée de jaune et ainsi légendée : "le Jardin parfumé"). L'ouvrage proprement dit compte 291 pages avec 4 gravures en noir représentant des scènes de harem. Mais on trouve auparavant XIII pages d'introduction: un avant-propos, signé I.L. (probablement écrit par Isidore Liseux) et une Notice du traducteur concernat Cheikh NEFZAOUI, j'auteur, lequel aurait vécu à TUNIS dans le commencement du 16ème siècle . Mais citons quelques lignes de cette notice: " "Ce qui fait surtout de ce traité un livre tout à fait à part, et peut-être unique en son genre, c'est le sérieux avec lequel les questions les plus lascives et les plus obscènes sont présentées; on voit que l'auteur est persuadé de l'importance des question qu'il y traite , et que le désir d'être utile à ses semblables est le seul mobile de ses efforts." Selon la Justification le tirage total aurait été limité à 495 exemplaire mais le nôtre n'est pas numéroté. A part de très dicrètes marques du temps et une légère trace de mouillure en bordure supérieure des 3 dernières pages , notre exemplaire peut être dit en TRES BON ÉTAT.

( ) . Ce livre, qui a attiré l'attention du célèbre romancier français Guy de Maupassant en 1884, a été traduit en anglais par Sir Richard Burton sous le titre The Perfumed Garden. Sa femme a brulé les parties du livre traitant de l'homosexualité après la mort de Richard Burton, mais des années plus tard, ces chapitres ont été retrouvés et publiés . L'édition proposée est la traduction complète et la plus fidèle du livre, et est l'exemplaire à 315 du livre, qui n'a été tiré qu'à 320 exemplaires sur papier filigrané par l'éditeur Isidore Liseux en édition privée.
