Book
Hardcover. Two volumes bound in blue cloth, mounted color illustration on front covers with white lettering; color illustrated end papers; Volume 1 and 2 combined have 592 pp; both profusely illustrated in bw and color. Both volumes are housed in a blue cloth over cardboard slipcase with mounted color illustration. Text is in German. Prince Franz von Anhalt-Dessau built his glass painting collection into the windows of the Gothic House in the park of Dessau-Wörlitz, an incunable of Neo-Gothic. The catalog, richly illustrated with comparative material, reveals this still largely unknown inventory of glass paintings from the late Middle Ages and the early modern period It came to Wörlitz mainly from Switzerland and southern Germany, but also from western and northern Germany, the Netherlands and France before 1800. It is the oldest, largest and most diverse in situ preserved glass painting collection of its kind on the continent The catalog not only reveals the original context of the stock of panes, most of which have been handed over without any indication of provenance, but also the new context created by the enlightened prince. It provides an insight into the intentions of the learned collector and artistic arranger It made an important contribution to the history of the collection, to the reception of the Middle Ages around 1800, and to the history of culture and ideas of that time. In addition, it illustrates in a topographical-chronological overview the knowledge gained from processing the stock of panes "- provided by publisher. VG+/VG (books are very crisp and clean, appear unread. Slipcase has minor scuffing).

4°, 592 u. 208 S., zahlr., oft farb. Abb., 1 Falttafel., OLwd. in Schmuckschuber., Tadell. 5500 gr. Schlagworte: Kunstgewerbe - Glas, Porzellan, Kunst - Kunstgeschichte, Gotik, Deutschland.
