"Bring up the intriguing subject of prostitution history in the American West, and you are sure to liven up a conversation. The thought of someone paying for sex diverts from societal and cultural ideals about how and when sex should be employed. It also brings forth a slew of questions, from how business was conducted to how the industry maintained its relationship with governments, big and small. In between are enough bawdy stories to make a sailor blush. Although prostitution in the West could indeed be gritty and dangerous, the act was sometimes viewed as a healthy and integral part of life. In the days of the mountain men rendezvous, certain American Indians offered the sexual favors of their wives and daughters to their white guests. For instance, the Assiniboines of the Great Northern Plains commonly lent out their daughters for sex, always in trade for goods. The more the girls brought in, the greater the respect for them and their families. Not all tribes, however, allowed such sexual license." (from TrueWest Magazine).

"The Silver Valley was settled when miners came looking for gold near the south fork of the Coeur d Alene River in the late 1870s. After a few years, it became clear that where the real jackpot lay was in galena and other silver and lead deposits found in the area. This small stretch of Idaho became the largest silver-producing area in the world, and still ranks among the top 10 mining districts in world history. The numbers are impressive. After only one hundred years of mining, the valley had produced over 1 billion ounces of silver, and significant amounts of lead, zinc, and copper totaling 5.5 billion dollars according to the Idaho Geological Survey.".

First edition. First edition. 8vo. Signed by the compiler. Pictorial stiff wrappers, 63 pp., acknowledgments, introduction, illustrated from photographs. This is the fifth volume in the series. The photographers and women in the photographs are by and large unknown. Most of these previously unpublished photographs were produced by professional photographers. Many of the women are shown in photographic studios with painted backdrops. As in the previous books, the photographs range from fully-dressed prostitutes to those who have shed all their clothes. The photographs are not pornographic, the ladies are just not wearing clothes. Each photograph is accompanied by a quote about prostitutes or prostitution. These quotes come from a variety of sources. Some of the passages are serious while others are tongue-in-cheek. Although many of the quotes are from contemporary sources, they apply to the time period represented in this volume. As new.

This is the story of madam Mattie Silks, eight beautiful prostitutes, and their thrilling and dangerous 1898 trip to the Klondike gold fields. Denver madam Mattie Silks decided to travel north and get her gold by providing sportinâ women for the lonely miners. Mattie chose eight of her most attractive young prostitutes to accompany her. The group could not have chosen a worse time of the year. The Yukon interior was frigid, with the mercury dropping to between -30Ì F and -50Ì F. There were no trains or roads, only trails. They traveled over 500 miles in these arduous conditions. On her trip home through Skagway, Mattie crossed paths with an old nemesis, Soapy Smith. Smith and his gang made plans to rob and murder Mattie. As new.

First edition. First edition. 8vo. Signed by the compiler. Pictorial stiff wrappers, 64 pp., acknowledgments, introduction, illustrated from photographs. 1896-1901There was a fabulous gold strike in the Klondike at the end of the nineteenth century. Men came from all over to seek their fortune in this little-known area. In addition to the men coming to the strike, there was a special breed of women who came in search of fortune. They were the gold rush girls, who dispensed their favors upon the men of the gold rush. One of the better-known women was called The Oregon Mare. It was said she whinnied while dancing, as well as during other forms of recreation. The near-famous Doll of Dawson was in and out of court for a variety of reasons. She lost a case involving an $18 laundry bill but she made the judge blush during the proceedings. Then there was the sidewalk altercation between Nellie the Pig and the Petite Sisters Pickering, which resulted in collateral damage. Meet these and other women who lived in the Klondike during its most memorable years, 1896-1901. As new.

In her 80s she told tales about her wild adventures. Kate Dulaney plied her trade in Alaska and fell in love with a man half her age. He became a minor celebrity while she disappeared into obscurity. Cattle Kateâ s fame was established when she became the first woman hanged in Wyoming territory. As new.
