Orignally appearing throughout 1978 and published under the running title "Footnotes In History", they focused on long-forgotten and long overlooked historical facts The land that would become Monmouth County was first spotted by Henry Hudson in 1609; it was settled by Quaker and Scottish immigrants in the 17th century. The Revolutionary War Battle of Monmouth took place here in 1778.
