Gray dust jacket toned and foxed with some soiling, short closed tear and light creasing at bottom edge of front panel, 3.5cm tear at heel of front flap fold with tape repair to dj's blank verso, top corner of front flap is price-clipped; dj now presented in a mylar Brodart protector. Gray cloth with black spine lettering. Light foxing and toning upon edges and front endpapers as well as several preliminary leaves; interior pages are otherwise quite clean. A very good copy in a very good- dust jacket. Attorney, judge, state congressman, U.S. Representative, and Confederate Army brigadier general, Reuben Davis was among Mississippi's most prominent citizens from antebellum days through the Reconstruction era. First published in 1889 Davis' autobiographical RECOLLECTIONS OF MISSISSIPPI AND MISSISSIPPIANS is a grand account of nineteenth century life in Mississippi and was reprinted in 1890 and 1891.
