Hardcover. Condition: As New. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. 1st Edition. Around the World in a Dugout Canoe: The Untold Story of Captain John Voss and the Tilikum, MacFarlane, John; Salmon, Lynn J. Published by Harbour Publishing, Pender Harbour, British Columbia, 2020. First Edition. 268pp., illustrated. In fine, unread condition and housed in a fine, unclipped jacket. Anticipating fame and wealth, Captain John Voss set out from Victoria, BC, in 1901, seeking to claim the world record for the smallest vessel ever to circumnavigate the globe. For the journey, he procured an authentic dugout cedar canoe from an Indigenous village on the east coast of Vancouver Island. For three years Voss and the Tilikum, aided by a rotating cast of characters, visited Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Brazil and finally England. In this groundbreaking work, marine historians John MacFarlane and Lynn Salmon sift fact from fiction, Around the World in a Dugout Canoe tells the real story of a little-understood character and his cedar canoe. It is an enduring story of courage, adventure, sheer luck and at times tragedy.

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: N/A. First Edition. This book was written as a text for schools, college, and business to help the reader understand the geographical nature of resources and world trade. Inside you will find very detailed geographical reference material on just about any product imaginable. The most striking reference to me was for petroleum in 1899. That year Russia slightly out produced the USA and together these two countries supplied 95% of the world s oil. There are plenty of additional amazing facts to be culled from the pages of this gem. There is also a fold out land use world map at the back of the book that has some creasing, but is crisp and complete. I could not find a similar copy anywhere by this author and this is a well done issue.
