Schweiger II, 1129. - Velleius Paterculus (ca. 20 v. Chr. bis 30 nach Chr.) war ein römischer Historiker. Er schrieb ein Kompendium der römischen Geschichte, das die Zeit vom Ende des Trojanischen Kriegs bis zum Tod der Livia im Jahr 29 behandelt. Velleius Paterculus war im Altertum wenig bekannt. Er scheint von Lucan gelesen und von Sulpicius Severus nachgeahmt worden zu sein. Der Text blieb nur in einem einzigen, schlecht geschriebenen und verstümmelten Manuskript erhalten, welches Beatus Rhenanus 1515 in der Abtei von Murbach im Elsass entdeckte und das heute als verloren gilt. - Papierbedingt leicht gebräunt u. minimal fleckig, vorderer Vorsatz mit kl. (Namen- ?)-Ausriß, Bibl.-Sign. verso Deckel, Bibl.-Stempel auf Titel, vereinzelte Buchstaben des Titels in "Schülermanier" nachgestrichelt.

Marcus Velleis Paterculus or Gaius Velleius Paterculus was a Roman historian. This work is an abridged edition of his Greek and Roman history and is translated into French. In a full calf binding with gilt stamping to the spine. Externally, generally smart with bumping to the extremities and to the head and tail of spine. Rubbing to the spine, mostly to the raised bands as well as to the head and tail of spine. Front joint has evidence of worming. Front hinge is slightly strained but firm. Prior owner's bookplate to front pastedown, Vouzan. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are slightly age toned to edges with occasional spots. Good. book.

Legatura in marocchino rosso settecentesco a quattro nervi con titolo in oro al tassello superiore. Filetti in oro ai bordi dei piatti, quattro piccoli gigli agli angoli e rosone centrale. Tagli dorati e sguardie in carta decorata. Esemplare in ottime condizioni, senza difetti di sorta, se non leggera usura alle cerniere. Nr.cat: 133/09.
