Hardcover. First American edition. Very Good+ in Very Good+ Dust Jacket in mylar sleeve. During the 1920s Ludwig achieved international fame for his popular biographies, which combined historical fact and fiction with psychological analysis. After his biography of Goethe was published in 1920, he wrote several similar biographies, including one about Bismarck (1922-24), Napoleon (1825), Michelangelo (1930), and Cleopatra (1937). His abhorrence of the Nazi regime led him to work for the U.S. government in 1940, writing anti-fascist pamphlets. Edited By Ethel Colburn Mayne. Translated from the German by M.I. Robertson. Illustrated with b/w photographs. Frontis illustration of Ludwig. Index. Blue cloth with blind stamped titling and decoration in black on front and spine. Covers show very mild wear/rubbing at corners and at top & tail of spine. Dust Jacket is price clipped, shows light wear and age toning. Interior is clean, crisp, tight & bright, unmarked. 448 pp. Approx. 6" x 9". A very nice copy. Copies with an intact Dust Jacket are very scarce. Carefully shipped in secure parcel.
