La encuadernación es original del siglo XVI y está bastante bien conservada, aunque el lomo tiene al pie una rozadura y el resto del mismo ha perdido en parte los hierros en seco originales a causa de los años; la portada con varias notas a tinta de la época que no tocan texto y una pequeña falta en la esquina inferior externa; alguna linea del texto subrayada a tinta de la época. Levinus Lemnius o Limnos Levine (1505-1568) nació en Ziericzea o Zirichzaea (Zirizaea Latina), que es el actual Zierikzee en la isla de Schouwen en Zeeland Duiveland (Holanda). Médico y astrólogo, estudió bajo el gran anatomista Andrea Versal o Vesalio (André van Wesele), y durante toda su vida se dedicó al estudio de lo que era desconocido, misterioso y extraño. De Occultis Miraculis Naturae, publicada por primera vez en Amberes en 1559, se convirtió en un libro muy popular y de referencia para el conocimiento de los fenómenos ocultos, rarezas, maravillas naturales, los monstruos y los nacimientos monstruosos, creencias míticas.etc., otras partes de la obra sólo tratan de entretener al lector. Pero además, Lemnius tenía en mente un propósito mucho más serio: demostrar la presencia de Dios en la naturaleza, en contra de la tendencia de la filosofía contemporánea a racionalizar milagros; preservar la divinidad de la naturaleza y apartarla del naturalismo que caracterizaba a la escuela italiana de la magia natural.
