VG orig. tan cloth in torn, price-clipped dj. 283 p.; 23.5 cm. `Then again, the chapters we assign to Deutero-Isaiah do not contain static statements about God. DI is not a collection of doctrines which could mean the same in the twentieth century as they must have meant in 540 B.C. In fact, it is the very vitality of the book that prevents the Jew and the Christian from reaching an identical exegesis of it.' (p. 13) -- `It could be only a genius and a master of his own tongue who could contrive to employ triple and even quadruple honomyms successfully. DI was just such a poetic genius, for his carefully executed verse bears the marks of this style of writing that was common later amongst the Arabs. It has long been recognized that the prophets enjoyed creating puns. But DI went further than that in his artistry. He packed some of his words with more than merely two meanings. Thus he produced a highly condensed from of writing that cannot always be translated verbatim, but which has to be interpreted and explained in detail.' (p. 17) -- `Isa 40-55 is a document of fundamental importance. The roots of most of Christian theology are to be found in it. Therefore its study is both essential and very rewarding.' (p. 18). Binding is Hardback.
