Octavo, blue cloth (hardcover), gilt letters, x + 125 pp. Near-Fine, with light foxing (age darkened spotting) in a slick dust jacket in Very Good condition, with sunning to spine. From dust jacket: This is the story of the Miller family of Crescent City, Florida, who trace their Florida beginnings to John W. Miller. The absorbing account also contains much of the history of Crescent City itself. John W. Miller was from iowa, and as a young man came to the St. Johns River Valley in 1869. By 1881 he was engaged in the steamboat business, operating between Crescent City and Jacksonville. Miller was identified with and closely involved in Crescent City's development in its early years. Miller's son, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren continued in the growth and development of the community and expanded their business enterprises. Today Miller Enterprises, Inc., is one of the nation's largest family-and-employee-owned supermarket and convenience-store enterprises. How all of this evolved is accurately chronicled in this monograph, which is based on carefully documented sources. What emerges is the important and appealing story of a family that has made a contribution to Florida's history and an account of one of the state's signficant small and growing cities.
