ZB Zürich) -Biographisch relevanter Nekrolog auf den während der Restaurations- und Regenerationszeit politisch für die katholisch-konservative Seite an vorderster Front engagierten Dekan Groth : Michael Groth (Berikon 1784-1855 Merenschwand), kath., von Berikon AG, Priester auf dem zweiten Bildungsweg (Schüler von Widmer, Gügler und Geiger). Er war von so streng kirchlicher Gesinnung, dass er deswegen sogar intern Schwierigkeiten hinnehmen musste. Anfänglich mehr Anstellungen als Hauslehrer [.], von 1821 bis zu seinem Tode dann Pfarrer in Merenschwand. (G. Boner, in: Biogr. Lex. d. Aargaus. Aarau 1958) - "Der Radikalismus war im Staate Aargau eben zur Herrschaft gekommen, als Groth durch die Wahl zum Dekan eine führende Rolle unter dem Freiämter Klerus zufiel. Dem Dekan oblag vor allem damals die Wahrung bedrohter Rechte der Kirche. Groth setzte sich unerschrocken für diese ein. Er war nicht der Mann, der rasch zum Nachgeben bereit gewesen wäre. [.] Groths Haltung musste ihn bei den Radikalen unbeliebt machen. [.] Den Höhepunkt der Bedrängnis brachte ihm das Jahr 1835. Damals war er bemüht, eine eindeutige und möglichst einhellige Stellungnahme des Klerus gegen die vom Grossen Rate angenommenen Badener Konferenzartikel zustandezubringen. Das wurde ihm als staatsfeindliche Tätigkeit ausgelegt und führte [.] schliesslich zu einer neun Wochen dauernden Gefangenschaft [.].
