Softcover. Condition: VG. Purplish-blue & illus. wraps, [36 pp.], 31 duotone and color illus. Issued in conjunction with a 2006 exhibition of sketches rendered by English artist Geoffrey Clarke (1924-2014), who is better known for his sculpture work. With essays by Gordon Cooke and Judith Legrove, and 28 examples of Clarke's creativity. "He developed a personal language to convey the relationships between God and Man, Man and Nature," says Cooke. "The prints express ideas for sculpture and overcome the lack of a third dimension in their emotional depth.".

Soft cover. Condition: New. Last summer s Modern British exhibition was a significant challenge with the various lock downs restricting access to the gallery. Like all galleries we did what we could online with presentations and videos and virtual reality shows but we know deep down that our friends and collectors prefer the real thing and it is good news that the gallery is now open again. We have made a number of significant acquisitions since the beginning of 2020, and few of you will have been able to see them until now. In particular we have acquired very important early unique works by Armitage, Butler and Chadwick, all from the 1950s and 1960s, the golden era of British sculpture. 92pp.

Soft cover. Condition: New. Make It New opens at Frieze Masters on 11 October and builds on previous gallery exhibitions, looking anew at the progressive and innovative approach to materials and processes in post war British Art. It is not a uniform linear progression of one school but a kaleidoscope of ideas, materials and methods, where texture, colour, shape and form evolve in ever demanding, unique and surprising ways. The exhibition features many of the leading post war British artists, ranging from the plexiglass prints of Bridget Riley to Henry Moore s sculpture cast in lead, carved relief board by Ben Nicholson to plaster and iron sculptures by Lynn Chadwick. The accompanying catalogue has an extensive text by Dr Judith LeGrove. 88pp.

Soft cover. Condition: New. In the course of many exhibitions of post war British art curated at Osborne Samuel, one name would continually arise that of Lilian Somerville. She was the Director of the British Council s Fine Arts Department from 1948 to 1970, the doyenne of pivotal Venice and São Paulo Biennales and curator of numerous British Council led touring exhibitions. Letters and documents written by her or to her exist in huge files at the National Archives, the British Council and in countless artists archives. Her influence at home and internationally was extensive and profound on the landscape of post war British art. Curiously however, until now, there has not been an exhibition or publication dedicated to her work , unlike male colleagues of the same generation. In this exhibition we have brought together paintings and sculptures by British artists with a connection to Somerville. Their careers were undoubtedly impacted by her enterprise. 144pp.
