Ferguson 1846-1848" tipped in to pg. 371. Very good condition. Ralph P. Bieber (1894-1981) was editor of The Southwest Historical Series, a 12-volume series of historical documents depicting social and economic conditions in the Southwest during the nineteenth century. First edition Volume IV, containing journals written by three soldiers of the Army of the West during the Mexican-American War of 1846-1848.

All three men participated in the war against Mexico, their occupation of New Mexico and California. They march from Sacramento and Missouri to take over this land for the United States, under the leadership of General Stephen Watts Kearny and General A.W. Doniphan. Portrait frontispiece, 368pp., folding map, with an appendix containing muster roll of volunteers. Bound in maroon cloth, spine lettering and top edge gilt, uncut. A lovely nearly fine copy of this important historical event.
