Softcover. Condition: New. As New, 13" x 10." Brand new in shrink wrap. Black-and-white paper wrappers with white and red lettering on front and back. Black spine with no lettering. Covers pristine and intact, binding tight. Pages likewise pristine and intact. Published in conjunction with Light Work, an arts organization founded in 1973. Beginning in 1985, the organization produced a series of exhibition catalogs of which this is the 78th. No. 129 of the _Contact Sheet_ series. This issue of _Contact Sheet_ highlights the work of American photographer John Gossage (b. 1946) that appeared in his book, _Berlin in the Time of the Wall_. Gossage first began taking photos of the Berlin Wall in 1982 as a way to address the emotional and psychological trauma brought about by the splitting of East and West Berlin. He returned over subsequent years into the 1990s to continue documenting the wall. Through his photos, Gossage wanted to visually show how seemingly mundane objects, such as the Berlin Wall itself, can harbor feelings of deep emotion, pain, and suffering.

Seller: ModernRare, CHICAGO, IL, U.S.A.
First Edition
Soft cover. Condition: As New. 1st Edition. 1st Printing. 72 pages. Published in 2007. Retrospective collection of photographs. Limited Edition of 1500 copies. The first and only edition. 750 copies were distributed in the United States, the other 750 in Europe. There is no ISBN. The Limited Edition is now scarce. A brilliant production by Martin Parr and John Gossage: Oversize-volume format. Copper softcovers with titles on the cover and stapled at the spine, as issued. Photographs by Martin Parr (as "Obvious") and John Gossage (as "Ordinary"). There is no text. Printed on pristine-white, thick coated stock paper in the United Kingdom to the highest standards. Without DJ, as issued. Published by The Rocket Press London in conjunction with The Stephen Daiter Gallery Chicago. Presents Martin Parr's and John Gossage's "Obvious & Ordinary: America 2006". A juxtaposition of images in color by Martin Parr with black-and-white ones by John Gossage, the fruitful collaborative result of yet another pilgrimage, if that is the right word, to the inexhaustible American heartland. Documents the road trip to Memphis (to visit William Eggleston) by Parr (British, works in Color, is "Obvious") and Gossage (American, works in Black-and-White, is "Ordinary"). Parodistic of their own works and their eminent predecessors, it is an elegantly produced book that also happens, inadvertently, to contain some of their best work: The photograph as lucky, happy accident. "Obvious and Ordinary" is in the same vein, sort of, as such classics as Robert Frank's "The Americans" and Stephen Shore's "Uncommon Places". An absolute "must-have" title for Martin Parr and John Gossage collectors. This is a copy of the Limited Edition of 1500 copies. This title is a contemporary art photography classic. This is one of few copies of the Limited Edition still available online, is still in the publisher's original shrinkwrap, and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright. Please note: Copies available online have serious flaws. This is surely an accessible and lovely alternative. A scarce copy thus. 36 color, 36 black-and-white plates. Two of the most important and most influential photographers of our time. A fine copy. (SEE ALSO OTHER MARTIN PARR AND JOHN GOSSAGE TITLES IN OUR CATALOG). no.
