Hardcover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. First Edition. First Printing. No other print dates. Bound in original green cloth with title and author in gilt on spine. Fanciful decorative designs debossed in black on covers with horse design in black on spine. Binding is shaken with both covers cracked at the hinges and holding on by threads. Page 69 has come free of the binding, page 89 is loose and there are no missing pages. All edges and corners worn with some fraying at head and heel of spine. Head of spine missing 1" of cloth. Small indentation on fore-edge of front cover. Page edges darkened. Paste-downs and end papers appear to have been stuck together at one time. There is discoloration and a light stain on one blank page near the end of the book. Inscribed by two previous owners on ffe with the dates "1879" with the first and "1946" with the second. Otherwise the book is generally clean with smooth unmarked pages. 390 pp. Author was Professor of Pathology and Operative Surgery at the Veterinary College of Philadelphia. States " Illustrated by nearly One Hundred Engravings".

Hardcover. Condition: Poor. Green decorative cloth boards exhibit very heavy wear on corners, edges, hinges and spine including the spine ends. Front and back covers and spine have heavy soiling. Heavy yellowing to page ends and text due to age. Otherwise unmarked. Hinge is cracked but still attached. Previous owners name and address on ffep. Over 100 illustrations. There are various poems that were clipped out of newspapers tucked in the pages. A interesting one from 1917 is titled WE'LL BE AFTER YOU, JACK PERSHING, In just a little while. All of our books are individually inspected and described. Never ex-lib unless explicitly described as such.

A thick book split into 4 independently paginated sections: The Horse and His Diseases 384 pages; Cattle and their diseases 340 pages; Sheep, Swine, and Poultry 243 pages; History and Breeds 170 pages followed by 4 pages of advertisements from the publisher. No date on title page. Copyright page states, "Entered according to the Act of Congress in the year 1866". This copy is in good condition. Leather boards are worn. Leather loosening at bottom left of front board and some insect damage at the right edge of front board. Boards beginning to separate from spine at the bottom. Otherwise binding is square and tight. Page are evenly toned with age. Front free endpaper wrinkled and torn. Some foxing and fingerprint smudging. Overall a handsome copy. More than two hundred illustrations throughout. This book is oversized and may require extra charge for international or priority shipping.
