Some wear to paper at extremities and on spine, paper yellowing, small spots of damp soil to front panel, light dust soil overall, neat former owner's signature in ink to second blank.

Stiff boards with an integral vellum paper dust wrapper. A virtually fine copy in original patterned card slipcase, with just a hint of wear to several extremities. Jefferies' story 'Saint Guido' was first printed in the 'English Illustrated News' in December 1884 and was subsequently collected in 'The Open Air' (1885). Miller & Matthews C5.3.

From the The Hugoe Matthews collection. Hugoe Matthews (1938-2011) was an authority on the Victorian novelist and nature writer Richard Jefferies, of whose works he created probably the finest collection in private hands. In collaboration with George Miller, Matthews wrote the definitive bibliography of Jefferies? works, published by Scolar Press in 1993 and served for many years as President of the Richard Jefferies Society. The softcover book, wrapper are very good++ condition. The slip case is good only with rubbing to edges, loss to edges/sides and age toning to spine. More images can be taken upon request.
