In 1961 Mr. Schafer managed to acquire the Rothman-Collection (some 1500 items of German literature in first editions), and in 1974 the French Library of Mr. Jean Furstenberg (one of the founders of I.A.B.), a collection of nearly 1400 volumes of French illustrated books of the XVIIIth century, including many proof prints, designs and fine bindings Participants in the 1990 [A.I.B.] Würzburg Colloquium are the first to visit the collection on its new premises (to see an exhibition of 189 illustrated printed books from the 15th to the 20th centuries)."
